Come hear our exciting guest speaker Jon Camp, Outreach Coordinator for Vegan Outreach. For over a decade, Vegan Outreach has been one the most active grassroots organizations working to reduce animal suffering by promoting cruelty-free eating. Jon will speak to us about simple, effective ways we can all make a difference for animals!

Off the Chain
We kick off our second annual Through Other Eyes film festival with Off the Chain, an unprecedented look into the underground world of illegal dog fighting through the eyes of law enforcement, animal welfare groups, dog fighters, and the dogs themselves. Chimpanzees: An Unnatural History
Our Through Other Eyes film festival continues with Chimpanzees: An Unnatural History. This documentary by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Allison Argo explores the stories of chimps who have lived their lives in research and entertainment and the people working to give them a second chance at life. Discussion led by Suzie Fatkin, 3rd year UGA student majoring in Anthropology and Ecology. See our Film Festival page for details!

Peaceable Kingdom
The third feature in our Through Other Eyes film festival, Peaceable Kingdom examines the disparity between the storybook image of farming and the stark reality of today's industrialized factory farms. The film explores the human-animal connection at a sanctuary for abused farmed animals, offering a life-changing message of compassion and respect for all living beings. Cage Free Egg Days
Come help us inform the student body of our ongoing campaign to get UGA dining services to switch to using cage-free eggs instead of eggs from hens confined in battery cages. We'll be displaying posters, handing out fliers, and collecting petition signatures at Tate Plaza from 9:30-3:30.  If you would like to help, contact Claire Rice or Luke Smith.

Dark Water Rising
The fourth feature in our Through Other Eyes film festival, Dark Water Rising: Survival Stories of Hurricane Katrina Animal Rescues follows a dedicated and compassionate group of volunteer rescuers from around the world who risked their lives in a heroic effort to save nearly 10,000 animals. Discussion led by Mary Miller, Peabody Awards Collection Cataloger at the UGA Libraries and Hurricane Katrina animal rescue volunteer. See our Film Festival page for complete details!

Our Through Other Eyes film festival concludes with Charlotte's Web. This animated musical, based on E.B. White's children's book classic, is about a courageous spider who helps save the life of an ill-fated pig. Revisit the original classic film as we consider the lessons it still holds for us today! Come hear our exciting guest Dr. Sarah Wright of UGA's Department of Philosophy speak on "What is the Value of (New Measures of) Biodiversity?" Dr. Wright's presentation explores a number of different measures of biodiversity, and seeks to compare these measures with philosophical arguments for valuing biodiversity and valuing species.

Our special guest this week will be Lorena Mucke, coordinator for the Christian Vegetarian Association. Ms. Mucke will be sharing with us how faith and religious
beliefs affect the way Christians relate to creation as a whole. She will also share how animal advocates, whether Christian or not, can communicate better to Christian friends or family in order to be effective advocates for animals in our society where many people base their ethical decisions on religious beliefs.

S.O.S will have a table at Tate Plaza with free food samples and literature in observance of the Great American Meatout, a national celebration of vegetarian living and its benefits for health, animals, & the environment. Surviving the Next Pandemic: Bird Flu and Other Emerging Infectious Diseases
Leading public health authorities predict that the H5N1 avian influenza virus may trigger a deadly human influenza pandemic worldwide. In a captivating multimedia presentation, Dr. Michael Greger traces the role of humans in the evolution and spread of bird flu.
Dr. Greger reveals what we can do to protect ourselves and what human society can do to reduce the likelihood of such potential catastrophes in the future. Dr. Greger is Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at the Humane Society of the United States and author of the book Bird Flu: A Virus of Our Own Hatching.
