Ask-a-Vegetarian Day
A fun event for us to help dispel popular myths about animal rights activists and vegetarian lifestyles. It will also be a time to plug SOS as an awesome group and encourage students to choose compassion and kindness for animals!

Vegan Ice Cream Social
Join SOS for a vegan ice cream social! Vegan ice cream tastes just as decadent as dairy ice cream and is made with rice milk, coconut milk, soy milk, or almond milk. Bring some vegan ice cream or toppings, a bowl and spoon, and your awesome self! (bringing vegan ice cream is optional, just come and get to know us! We'll feed you!) Dogs welcome!
UGA North Campus green space by the Arch, 6:00 pm — 8:00 pm.

Hug a Vegetarian Day!
Open those arms and start spreading the love because September 21 is "Hug a Vegetarian" Day. That's right — a whole day dedicated to hugging animal lovers! Choosing vegetarian foods is one of the best ways that we can prevent animal suffering. Now that's something to celebrate! Let's spread the word about compassion for animals by hugging as many people as possible! Plus we'll be giving away FREE non-dairy ice cream sandwiches! So come share a hug and some tasty treats!

Lisa Lansing will present a talk about "Canine Cognition." How do dogs perceive the world? What's the most effective way to communicate with your dog? How do dogs learn? By understanding topics such as canine evolution, development, cognition and emotions we can offer them a better life. The talk will also examine dog training misconceptions and theories of dog domestication... did humans domesticate the wolf? Or did canines start the domestication themselves? Come learn all about our canine friends!

World Farm Animals Day
This annual observance is dedicated to raising awareness of the needless suffering and deaths each year of 50 billion animals in factory farms and slaughterhouses. S.O.S will have a table at Tate Plaza with free literature, stickers, DVDS, and yummy vegan foods to demonstrate how we all can reduce the suffering of factory-farmed animals by choosing a cruelty-free compassionate lifestyle!

Wayne Pacelle, President and CEO, Humane Society of the United States
S.O.S is delighted to host an evening with the leader of the nation's largest animal protection organization! Wayne Pacelle will join us to talk about his new book The Bond: Our Kinship With Animals, Our Call to Defend Them. Pacelle's best-selling book examines our attitudes towards animals and what we can do to help them. After the presentation, Pacelle will sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase. Please join us!

Claire Rice, UGA College of Veterinary Medicine class of 2012, will give a presentation on "The Disappearing World of Sea Turtles." There are seven species of sea turtles in the world, and six of these species have been found in Georgia's coastal waters. Sadly, the numbers of these aquatic reptiles is dwindling. This presentation will provide some background on the natural history of sea turtles, discuss the many reasons for their current endangered status, and provide information about conservation efforts and simple things that you can do to help prevent further decline of these special creatures.

Thanksgiving Vegan Potluck
Join your fellow animal lovers for a festive feast! Come celebrate a cruelty-free holiday season with friends and delicious animal-friendly food. Vegan dishes only please, in honor of a compassionate holiday for all. The potluck will take place in Myers Hall, Programming Room, which is located in the center of the UGA campus at Cedar and Lumpkin Streets. Myers is the largest building on the Myers Quad. Parking will be available for free in lot S03 in front of Rutherford and anywhere along Sanford Drive. South Deck (entrances on both Sanford and Lumpkin) also provides parking for a fee. See map for driving directions.
